E-mail Print

Saturday 27th March, 1pm-3pm (4pm finish for black belts)

A number of the Spirit instructors and seniors are attending the International Instructors Course in March. To ensure that all Spirit members get the benefit of this course a technical seminar is going to be held on Saturday 27th March, run by the Spirit Head Instructor Mr Brett Kraiger.

This will cover all major areas covered at the International Instructors Course, updating everybody on the latest changes. This opportunity should not be missed, especially given its proximity to the April gradings.

The seminar will be 2 hours long, with an extra hour for black belts.

Venue: Khandallah Town Hall, Ganges Road, Khandallah (map)

Kup Grading

E-mail Print

The next Kup Grading will be on Saturday 10th April, in Masterton.

Masterton club is the most recent addition to the Wellington Region, and this time it is their turn to host. We will only have to travel this far for a kup grading once every few years!

All the Spirit Clubs are grading in the morning. Grading starts at 9am, so please arrive by 8:30am. And please allow time for unexpected delays on the trip over. It is much better to arrive way too early than it is to arrive late.

Black belts are reminded of their obligation to assist with marshalling at the grading. This is a part of the responsibility of being a black belt, and your attendance is expected.

The grading is at Wairarapa College Gymnasium. The entrance is off Renall St (College Hostel Entrance), Masterton. (map)

Follow the road into Masterton. Turn left into Renall St at the second roundabout. Entrance to college about 500m up street on left. The gymnasium is diagonally across the fields from the entrance way.

General Choi said "Train easy, grading hard. Train hard, grading easy".  So train hard!

ITFNZ National Championships

E-mail Print

The ITFNZ National Championships 2010 are being held in Wellington on the 3rd & 4th July.

With the tournament in our own city, it is a great opportunity to either compete at a National level, or to witness New Zealand's best Taekwon-Doin in action.  (Yes, Taekwon-Doin is the proper word for people who do Taekwon-Do!).

The Wellington Regionals are usually held one or two months prior to the Nationals, and you usually have to qualify at the regionals in order to represent Wellington at the national tournament.

The tournament will also require many officials to help out on the day, so if you are qualified then please keep this weekend free so you can assist. For those who are not qualified umpires, there will very probably be an umpires course some time prior to the event.

More information will be posted as details become available.

Pre-gradings March 2010

E-mail Print

Pre-gradings are coming up. These are where your instructors get an opportunity to have a look at where you are at, and determine whether you are ready to go for your next belt.

Please note that for the mini-kids programme this only applies to those who already have their First Red stripe and the next stage is to go for yellow stripe (9th Kup).

In a pre grading the instructors are taking into account your technical performance, your theory knowledge, and your attitude. And other factors will also be taken into account, such as frequency of attendance at training and your general approach to class.

After the pre-grading the instructor will be in a position to let you know whether you can attend the Kup grading on 10th April in Masterton. They will usually be able to help you with feedback on the things you need to improve on as well.

Pre-grading takes place during normal class time.

Dates
Thorndon: Monday 8 March
Brooklyn: Sunday, 14 March
Karori: Monday, 22 March

Round Robin Tournament

E-mail Print

Sunday 28th March

There is to be a Round Robin tournament held on 28th March at Onslow College.

Normally ITF tournaments are "knock-out" competitions... as soon as you lose you are out. With a round robin competition this does not happen and you will have multiple opportunities to compete.

The tournament will have both patterns and sparring competitions.

The online entry form is available here.
