Changes at Brooklyn / Head Instructor

E-mail Print

Mr Brett Kraiger, III Dan, will be moving out of the role of instructor at Spirit Taekwon-Do Brooklyn and into a Head Instructor role within the Spirit Group. As Head Instructor he will be assisting the instructors with their own training and knowledge of Taekwon-Do. He will also be holding special classes for Spirit members throughout the year. These will consist of seminars on particular topics, combined trainings, or taking classes as a guest instructor at one of Spirit Taekwon-Do's usual training sessions.

Mr Kraiger has been doing Taekwon-Do for more than 20 years and instructing for more than 13. He has a particular interest in the technical side of Taekwon-Do, including patterns and the theory of Taekwon-Do movement. He is also passionate about how training in Taekwon-Do can develop skills applicable in day-to-day life.

Mr Benjamin Wylie-van Eerd, III Dan, will be taking over the instructing role at Brooklyn on Thursday nights. Ms Louise Chan will continue to take Sunday trainings. Mr Wylie-van Eerd has been doing Taekwon-Do for 9 years, and really enjoys flying kicks! He also hopes to use his knowledge of physics to develop excellent technique. (He’s working towards his Ph.D in physics!)

Black Belt Grading Results

E-mail Print

A huge congratulations to Malcolm Doidge, Justin Orsborn, Joel Hardwick (all from Spirit Brooklyn) and John Roxburgh (Spirit Karori) who all passed their Black Belt grading recently.

John graded in Dunedin on the 28th and 29th November, and Malcolm and Justin graded in Wellington on the 12th & 13th December.

Joel first attempted his grading in December 2008, but had to complete the fitness test again. He did this on the 12th December.

A black belt grading is a very hard test that takes place over two days. It combines all elements of Taekwon-Do including a hard physical workout, technical testing (patterns, one-step, self defence, free-sparring and destruction), a written test and an oral interview! New Zealand's black belt gradings are widely acknowledged as the hardest black belt gradings in the world!

So it is a huge effort from everyone and a great result. Well done!

Check out the photos of the Wellington grading.

What Our People Say

I like the philosophy and tenets (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit) and the discipline of Taekwon-Do. In this world many of the traditional good values have been forgotten or not practised and it's encouraging that this gets promoted in Taekwon-Do. Taekwon-Do is for everyone!!!!
